My family doesn’t understand
This is one of the hardest parts of becoming Muslim, and Islam does not ask you to stop being their child. The Quran is explicit that good treatment of parents continues even where there is deep disagreement.

What Allah says
Quran
But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.

What this is saying
The verse deals with the hardest case — parents pressing their child to associate others with Allah — and even there, the instruction is to accompany them in this world with kindness. Disagreement and good treatment are not alternatives.

Something small you can do
- Pick one ordinary act of kindness toward them this week that has nothing to do with religion.
- Do not argue theology at the dinner table. Almost nobody was convinced that way.
- Make dua for them by name.
